WoW Forever Classes Tier List: S to B, and Why Rogue Falls
Nine classes, a level 60 cap, and a beta that never let anyone past 30. That last number is the reason most WoW Forever classes tier lists you will read this week are partly fiction. They rank level 60 raid performance for a game whose raids do not open until December 9.
This list does something different. It ranks the classes on what the beta actually demonstrated, flags the places where other lists disagree, and tells you which pick fits the way you plan to play. If you are rolling on November 4 and want training costs and a mount handled before the rush, cheap WoW Forever gold from G4MMO is the shortcut most people take in launch week.
Key Takeaways
- Hunter is the safest first character: pet tanking, three usable damage trees, raid-wide Trueshot Aura.
- Shaman has the highest group value because major totems now buff the entire raid.
- Warrior owns main tanking, Priest owns raid healing, Mage and Warlock own damage.
- Rogue is the best personal damage class in the game and still the hardest to fit into a raid roster.
- No tier list can rank level 60 content yet. Raids open December 9, and the beta capped at 30.
How This Tier List Was Built
Four inputs, in order of weight:
- Playable beta builds. Dungeons up to Uldaman were testable. Real combat data, but only for the first half of the game.
- Official class notes. The October 15 and October 26 development notes confirm talent moves, coefficient fixes and the shift of major buffs to raid-wide.
- Talent trees. 51 points, milestones at 11, 16, 21 and 31, dual spec at 40. A spec's ceiling is visible even when the content is not.
- Published simulations and other tier lists. Used for relative ordering only, and cross-checked against each other.
A quick test for bad sources: WoW Forever has nine classes and a level 60 cap. If a list mentions Death Knight, Demon Hunter, level 70 or 80, or arena seasons, it was written for a Wrath private server or for retail and relabeled. Several of those are ranking on page one right now.

The Rogue placement is about roster value, not damage. That distinction matters enough to have its own section below.
S Tier: Hunter and Shaman
Hunter wins on friction. A pet absorbs the dangerous parts of leveling, damage comes from range, and all three trees do real work. Beast Mastery scales with the pet, Marksmanship is clean burst, Survival is a legitimate melee spec now rather than a novelty. Trueshot Aura going raid-wide turns a selfish DPS class into something a raid leader wants. The cost is pet management. A dead pet is a large damage loss, and you have to learn to leash it out of ground effects.
Shaman is here for a structural reason: major totems now affect the whole raid instead of one party, and Grace of Air can coexist with Windfury. When raid composition math bends around totem coverage, the class stops competing for a slot and starts being a requirement. Three roles, Elemental Mastery back at 31 points, and Lava Burst at 21 give it real damage options on top. Enhancement is the weak tree, which is why Shaman is S for value rather than S for damage.
A Tier: The Six That Fit Anywhere
Warrior. Best tank in the game, Fury got repeatedly buffed through the beta, Battle Shout is raid-wide. The first twenty levels are still the worst of any class. Gear hunger is real, and a Warrior without a weapon upgrade feels it immediately.
Paladin. Protection with a Judgement-based taunt fixes the classic complaint that Paladins could not main tank. Holy heals fine, and Holy Strike moving to baseline made Retribution less painful. It stays out of S because Retribution still trails the top damage specs, and tanking now requires more active upkeep than the old autopilot version.
Priest. Prayer of Mending plus a flat healing increase is the strongest raid healing package in the beta. Discipline gets Penance and shields, Shadow became a real damage spec after another tuning pass, and every priest now has Fear Ward and Devouring Plague regardless of faction. Solo leveling is still slow.
Mage. Arcane is one of the two best damage specs in the beta after the Arcane Blast redesign and Missile Barrage. Portals, food, and crowd control make it welcome everywhere. Fragility keeps it out of S: a mage that pulls threat or runs dry contributes nothing.
Warlock. Affliction is the other half of the damage conversation, and damage over time effects can now crit, which changes how the spec scales with gear. Shadow Mastery was doubled in a late build. Summons and healthstones are useful before a pull starts. The rotation is heavier than most players expect, and Demonology remains the weakest tree.
Druid. Bear tanks, cat DPS, tree heals, and Leader of the Pack is raid-wide. Wrath gained roughly 50 percent more base damage, which fixed Balance leveling. Nothing Druid does is the best in class, and all of it is good enough to hold a slot.
B Tier: Rogue
Rogue damage is not the issue. Assassination with Mutilate at 21 points is among the best single target kits in the beta, Combat cleaves with Blade Flurry, and Sap plus stealth skips whole dungeon packs. In PvP, Rogue is still one of the most oppressive classes in the game.
The issue is roster math. Rogue brings no raid-wide buff, so a raid leader gains nothing structural from stacking one. Melee slots are the most contested space in a 10 or 20 player raid, and Warrior, Feral Druid, Enhancement Shaman and Retribution Paladin all compete for them while bringing buffs or off-roles Rogue does not. In a fixed group that wants you, Rogue is an A-tier experience. Pugging, it is the class most likely to sit in LFG.

Two S-tier tanks is not a cop-out. Beta dungeons favor Paladin, level 60 projections favor Warrior, and nobody has tanked a Forever raid boss yet. If you tank for a fixed group, ask them which they would rather heal.

Question |
What sources claim |
What is actually true |
|
Best tank |
Prot Paladin on some lists, Prot Warrior on others |
Both are defensible at 30. Level 60 tanking is untested |
|
Best healer |
Disc Priest, Resto Druid, Resto Shaman all appear at S |
Depends on group size. Shaman scales with raid size |
|
Best DPS |
Arcane Mage, Affliction Warlock, BM Hunter, Sub Rogue all appear at S |
Simulation inputs differ. Nobody has parsed a Forever raid |
|
Rogue placement |
S tier on damage lists, B tier on class lists |
Both correct. Damage is top tier, roster value is not |
|
Warrior leveling |
Some call it the worst class, some call it S tier |
Slow solo, excellent at 60. Neither claim is wrong |
If a list gives you one number with no caveat, it is selling certainty it does not have.

|
Medium |

Difficulty is not the same as power. Shaman is S tier for group value and one of the harder classes to play well, which is exactly why good ones are in demand.
What Could Change After Launch
Three things will move this list, and all of them are scheduled:
- Levels 31 to 60. Several defining talents sit at 31 points or deeper, including Shield Slam for Warriors and Berserk for Druids. Entire specs get their identity after the beta cap.
- The December 9 raids. Barrow Deeps at 10 players and Hyjal Summit at 20 will produce the first real performance data. Until then, raid rankings are projections.
- Continued tuning. Blizzard moved racials on October 26, nine days before launch. It will keep tuning after launch.
FAQ
What is the best class in WoW Forever? Hunter for most players. It levels with the least friction, has three usable damage trees and brings a raid-wide buff. Shaman is the stronger pick if your priority is a guaranteed group slot.
What is the easiest class for beginners? Hunter, with Paladin close behind. Both forgive positioning mistakes, and neither depends on gear to function while leveling.
What is the best DPS class in WoW Forever? Arcane Mage and Affliction Warlock lead nearly every beta ranking. That conclusion comes from simulations and level 30 play, not from level 60 raid parses.
What is the best tank and healer? Protection Warrior and Protection Paladin are both defensible at 30. For healing, Discipline Priest is the safest dungeon pick and Restoration Shaman scales best as raid size grows.
Is Warrior bad for leveling? Slow, not bad. Warriors depend on weapon upgrades and have more downtime than pet classes. They become one of the strongest classes at 60, which is why the leveling complaint and the endgame praise are both accurate.
Can I change my mind after launch? Dual spec unlocks at level 40, so one character can cover two roles. Changing class means leveling again, which is where a WoW Forever boost costs less than a second run to 60.
When does WoW Forever release? November 4, 2026, with a level 60 cap. Raids open December 9. Early name reservations run October 27 to November 3 for buyers of the Skyborne or Warcraft Forever packs.
