Guild Wars 2's Latest Icebrood Saga Episode Review

The living world is the main reason to continue playing Guild Wars 2 after improving your character. It is basically a constantly evolving action that makes the world feel alive, hence the name. The final season of Living World started in September 2019 and follows the story of two races in the game, the Charr and the Norn, as they defend their home countries from the threat of a terrible Elder Dragon. In the last episode, the conflict reaches a boiling point as forces collide and the terrible power of the Elder Dragon manifests itself in epic battles.

This latest addition to The Icebrood Saga is a premiere for Guild Wars 2's Living World. It will only be published as text at first, and voice-over papers will be added later. There are obviously mitigating circumstances that led to this scenario, but frankly, it doesn't have much of an impact on the quality of the episode. Without spoiling the story, this episode is possibly one of the most exciting and unique entries in the living world that we have had for quite some time. Mostly thanks to a breathtaking combination of game types and dramatic story beats.

No Quarter features a combination of World Vs World (WvW) and Player Vs Environment (PvE) elements. On WvW maps, players from several of the game's worlds fight each other for control of different points on the map, as well as resources. New Icebrood Saga content brings WvW mechanics to a PvE environment. On the map, players must fight their way through two lanes of fortifications, battling waves of enemies and using siege weaponry to gain control over as much of the map as they can.

WvW-style borders around different sections of the map show you how much you and the other players have under your control.
According to the developers, this combination of WvW and PvE is intended to appeal to players who adhere exclusively to one type of map. Speaking as someone who exclusively plays PvE in Guild Wars 2, I can say that this map does its job spectacularly. The epic siege warfare taking place on a huge battlefield really brings you to the idea of ​​WvW. You and the other players have to work together to coordinate your assault, or you're likely to feel easily overwhelmed. It's not good to just run around doing whatever you want on your own like you do in PvE.

Fortunately, there are many ways to learn this lesson. The story is divided into two sections. The first one sees you and the other players trying to control the card. Once you've done that, proceed to the final confrontation that culminates in a major battle in the northernmost part of the site. You can't really lose in the first of these two sections. If you get stuck with a bad group of players, it will only take longer to unlock this final task. As long as people figure out what to do while attacking the bases, they'll be fine.

However, it is entirely possible that the second part of the mission will fail. You have 15 minutes to find and defeat the map's boss. In this section, the intensity is increased to 11. You and the other players must all rush the boss area and fight. This 15-minute timer is fairly generous, but it certainly doesn't feel that way when you're pounding the battlefield with a fight around you. The entire segment feels like a fight scene from a fantasy epic. There's no better selling point to seduce those who haven't tried Living World content yet.

As you can probably see, the whole event is quite difficult. The final fight is the toughest, but it is still easy to die in earlier stages, even for a character of maximum level. Fortunately, one of the new mechanics used in the map is airdrops. If you want to die or travel fast, you can choose to get involved in the fighting. This is useful throughout the conflict, but more useful in the last fight. If you are hit by a tank or scatter ball, it is nice to be able to fall straight from the sky instead of having to walk all the way back from the map's individual waypoint to the fight.

The air drops use one of the latest additions to the Icebrood saga. War supplies. These supplies are used to pay for your drop of air and are collected as you fight through enemy fortifications. The air drops themselves are fairly cheap, so they don't really register as much on a scale of things. But there are also other uses for war goods. First, they are necessary to repair damaged or destroyed fastenings on your warehouse. They also give you access to special siege items that are required to dismantle enemy vehicles and barricades.

The latest chapter in the Icebrood saga also includes a new strike mission. It's basically a super hard wave fighting mode that ends with a fight against a really tough enemy. The strike mission is extremely challenging in this case. During my first run, our entire team had dropped out after only a few laps. Realistically speaking, this mission is perfect for all players who are really looking for a challenge in late game. The mission also offers a certain type of enemy, but I can't really spoil that for anyone who wants to try it out for themselves.

Sound design was also a major focus of this special chapter of the Icebrood saga. Great efforts have been made to make war sounds as realistic and vivid as possible, and it really pays off. Especially if you use high quality headphones to play the game. These efforts culminate in one of the most intimidating card resets I've ever seen. Again, I can't talk about what exactly is happening. You have to play the story yourself to find out. However, make sure the volume isn't set too high when the map timer is set to zero.

When all is said and done, the latest addition to Guild Wars 2's Icebrood Saga is a breathtaking, intense war story. If you've never thought about getting into Living World content, this is the perfect place to start. It is a difficult nut to crack, but working with many other players to control as much of the map as possible offers a very real sense of achievement. If you are already invested in history, you will also find many payouts here. If you don't, you will likely be by the time you finish this episode.
