Ion Sputter Arc Raiders: Where To Find It And Why You Should Still Farm It

If you’ve been grinding Arc Raiders for a while, you already know the drill. Some materials are essential for building out your loadout, upgrading your gear, and squeezing every ounce of power out of your builds. Others look cool, sound cool, but don’t actually do anything quite yet. The Ion Sputter definitely falls into that second category right now. But just like other “mysterious” materials that later ended up being required for quests or crafting in past updates, it’s smart to start grabbing them early.

In this guide, I’m going to break down everything you need to know about the Ion Sputter Arc Raiders farming loop. What it is, where it drops, why it’s valuable even without a direct use, and the best farming paths I’ve found as someone who’s put an unhealthy number of hours into this game. Trust me, this isn’t one of those filler items you ignore indefinitely. There are reasons to stack them now before the meta shifts again.

Let’s go step by step.

What Is the Ion Sputter in Arc Raiders

The Ion Sputter is an Epic-grade crafting material added alongside the Stella Montis map update. While most materials in Arc Raiders clearly tie into a weapon, gadget, or upgrade path, this one currently stands in a weird zone where it has no direct use. No quest requires it. No Expedition Project requires it. No crafting recipe lists it.

So why bother farming it?

Simple. Arc Raiders has a habit of adding “useless” items that suddenly become critical overnight with a hotfix or seasonal patch. Anyone who remembers hoarding components before the Refiner upgrade rework knows exactly what I mean.

But even putting futureproofing aside, the Ion Sputter Arc Raiders material still has immediate value:

You can dismantle it for:

  • Voltage Converters

  • Exodus Modules

Both components are used in several mid and late-game crafting blueprints, especially for high-end gear like Heavy Shields and Bobcat SMGs.

And if you’re not into recycling, you can sell an Ion Sputter for a solid 6,000 Arc Raiders coins, which is more than most mid-tier materials fetch. That alone makes it worth scooping up whenever you can.

Where To Find Ion Sputters in Arc Raiders

Here’s the important part: Ion Sputters only spawn on the Stella Montis map. I’ve tested dozens of runs, and at this point, there’s no evidence of it naturally spawning anywhere else. This could change in future patches, sure, but for now the farm is locked to Stella Montis.

If you want to maximize your farming rotations, focus on these hot zones:

Assembly

This is one of the best places to start a run. Assembly has the Exodus material typing, which heavily boosts your chances of finding Epic-tier materials like the Ion Sputter. Containers, shelves, breachable boxes, and wrecked cabinets spread across the area give you plenty of opportunities per rotation.

The map layout is straightforward too. You’re not going to get lost, ambushed without warning, or forced into complicated vertical routes like some of the other zones.

Pro tip: Quickly sweep every room, always check the upper platform containers, then move on. Don’t waste time fighting everything unless you need the XP or drops. Stella Montis spawns can get intense, so keep moving.

Business Center

Business Center is another Exodus-typed area, and it’s hands-down one of the most reliable Ion Sputter Arc Raiders farming spots. The spawn density is high. Containers are stacked around nearly every corridor and open office space. You’ll get a mix of common, rare, and Epic materials here, and Ion Sputters drop often enough that it doesn’t feel like a drag.

This is usually where I fill most of my inventory on any given run.

The only downside? Other players know this spot is good too. If you’re playing during peak hours, expect some competition or half-looted floors.

Medical Research

Now, this is where the real gold is — well, figuratively.

Medical Research has some of the highest Epic-tier drop rates I’ve seen in the entire Stella Montis region. I’ve pulled Ion Sputters, Voltage Converters, and a surprising number of Rare components from this place. The layout is dense with lootable points, especially along the inner labs and external hallways.

If you’re only going to farm one place for the Ion Sputter Arc Raiders material, this is it. The consistency is excellent.

One thing to keep in mind: the spawns here can get chaotic. ARC enemies patrol aggressively, and narrow hallways can turn into death funnels if you’re not paying attention. Take it slowly and play smart.

Assembly Workshop

A fourth option that deserves a mention is the Assembly Workshop in the northwest corner of Stella Montis. Personally, I haven’t had the best luck here compared to the other three zones, but plenty of other veteran players swear by this area.

The layout is compact and full of lootables, which absolutely increases your odds of finding Epic materials in general. Whether it becomes part of your rotation just depends on your luck and comfort level with the mobs in this part of the map.

Best Farming Route for Ion Sputters

If you want a clean, efficient farming circuit, try this path:

Start at Assembly
Move directly to Business Center
Swing down into Medical Research
Optional finish at Assembly Workshop
Extract or reset and repeat

This loop hits all the highest-probability zones and keeps your run time tight. The entire cycle takes under 15 minutes if you stay focused and avoid unnecessary fighting.

If your goal is pure scrap farming rather than item variety, you can reverse the route and end at Assembly, which is usually the calmest area for extracting without interruptions.

What the Ion Sputter Is Used For

Right now? Nothing.

That’s not an exaggeration. The Ion Sputter isn’t tied to:

  • Any crafting blueprint

  • Any Expedition progression

  • Any NPC upgrade

  • Any quest requirement

But that doesn’t mean it has no value.

Let’s break down why it’s still worth collecting:

Sell Value

Six thousand coins per drop is no joke. You can farm these and make big money quickly, especially early in a season when cash feels tight and upgrades feel expensive.

Dismantling Value

When dismantled, an Ion Sputter breaks down into:

  • 4 Voltage Converters

  • 1 Exodus Module

These are extremely valuable and used in multiple weapon and gear upgrades. If you’re pushing toward late-game gear progression or trying to craft heavy-duty equipment, hoarding Ion Sputters will save you hours of grinding later.

Future Content Potential

This is the part a lot of new players overlook.

Arc Raiders updates tend to repurpose unused items into new crafting branches or questlines. Developers have repeatedly added new uses for materials that originally served no purpose. We’ve seen this with crafting modules, ARC salvage items, and several collectible mats.

Given that Ion Sputters have a defined material typing and drop from a specific map, there’s a very high chance they’ll be plugged into something important later.

Veteran tip: if an item is Epic rarity and has no use, that usually means it's waiting for a patch tie-in.

When to Farm Ion Sputters

If you’re early game and strapped for resources, the Ion Sputter can give you a huge early-money boost or provide crafting components you’d otherwise spend hours chasing.

If you’re mid or late game, farming them is more about futureproofing. Clear out your inventory, stack a few dozen Ion Sputters, and you’ll be ready for whatever update hits next.

Extra Tip: Bring the Right Weapons and Gear

Stella Montis hits harder than older regions. If you’re running this map with low-tier gear or inefficient loadouts, the farming run can turn into a slog.

Focus on:

  • Reliable mid to long-range weapons

  • A shield or defensive gadget

  • High-mobility gear for repositioning

If you’re short on upgrades, this might be a good time to browse Arc Raiders items shops or check trusted sellers like G4mmo to give yourself a smoother farming experience.

Final Thoughts on Farming Ion Sputter Arc Raiders

Even though the Ion Sputter doesn’t have a direct use right now, it’s absolutely worth farming. Between its high dismantle value, strong sell price, and future potential, this is one of those sleeper materials you’re better off stockpiling before the game decides it’s suddenly essential.

Stick to Stella Montis, focus on Assembly, Business Center, Medical Research, and optionally Assembly Workshop, and you’ll build up a nice stash of Ion Sputters in no time.

Whether you’re completing expeditions, upgrading gear, or preparing for upcoming content drops, having a stack of Ion Sputters ready will put you ahead of the curve. And in Arc Raiders, staying ahead is half the battle.
